Les Incendiaires (The Arsonists)
Les Incendiaires (The Arsonists), ARFI's brass trio, return with À l’Ouest, a bold repertoire in which they reinterpret Ennio Morricone’s iconic compositions for Sergio Leone’s films. Comprising Olivier Bost (trombone, percussion), Guillaume Grenard (trumpet, euphonium, percussion), and Eric Vagnon (saxophones, percussion), the trio embarks on a musical journey where minimal instrumentation breathes new life into classics like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars.
Armed solely with their wind instruments and makeshift percussion, they transform the sonic landscapes of the western into an imaginative voyage, paying tribute to Morricone’s iconoclastic approach. Far from clichés, À l’Ouest seeks to capture the very essence of the composer—a subtle alchemy between lyricism and sonic experimentation. The rearrangements, while remaining faithful to the richness of Morricone’s writing, manage to convey its depth with the simplicity of a trio, challenging the vast orchestras he employed. Through this new album, Les Incendiaires continue their pursuit of musical originality while furthering ARFI’s work in cinematic exploration.
