How to compose an orchestra with mobile phones? That’s what the Smartfaust project aimed to achieve. The goal was innovative: to enable composition through movement with minimal screen interaction. After several months of research and testing by Xavier Garcia (ARFI member) and Christophe Lebreton (musical computing director), the F.A.U.S.T technology from the Grame laboratory stood out.

Procedure

The idea is to offer a group of people (from 10 to 30 individuals) a collective musical playing experience using their phones and applications (free and downloaded in advance).

They can thus perform a 15-minute piece in concert, after a preparation session lasting an hour and a half. The audience can also participate, with an explanatory session at the beginning of the concert.
