Serge Sana

percussions, Keyboards

Serge Sana is a digital percussionist—sorry, a keyboardist—no, a composer… or perhaps a story collector? More precisely, a word-chewer. But above all, let’s say, a polyglot—at least in the sense of deep listening—rocked from childhood by a multitude of languages (only slightly fewer than the number of hands he seems to have). Including the poetic kind, mind you (Écrit Studio).

He's no stranger to polyrhythm, and his well-honed ability to coordinate right and left hemispheres has long orchestrated the playground where all his hands run free.

He's no stranger to collectives either (La Tribu Hérisson, for instance), and it’s only natural that he brings others along for the ride—often chosen for their love of tangled tongues (Le concert sous la langue)—or sparks participatory creations in the name of ever-widening horizons.

It’s not just his hands that keep busy—his feet are always on the move too, taking him on journeys he’s shared, among others, with the medieval ensemble Xérémia, where—percussionist or not—he had a wandering eye for the crumhorn and hurdy-gurdy. Incorrigible!

He didn’t learn all this in conservatories… well, not entirely. In his traveler’s bag: a DEM in electronic keyboards and a SACEM prize in electroacoustic composition.

At ARFI, he performs in Les Contes persans and Lozen.
