Clément plays the clarinet, bass clarinet, and alto saxophone. When an urgent musical necessity arises and his thumbs start itching, he plucks the sanza. And when no one is watching, he calls upon his eight other fingers to tinker at the piano, though mostly for compositional purposes.
His artistic approach is twofold—a double-sided coin: instinct (a concept deeply challenged by evolutionary theory but still very useful when you haven’t practiced enough). As an instrumentalist, he focuses on refining the accuracy of improvisation and spontaneity. As a composer, he is a tireless and meticulous creator of finely honed, haunting melodies.
Deeply attached to his native Auvergne, Clément has spent years drawing out the essence of the region’s musical heritage and blending it with the nectar of his other favorite musical aesthetics. This work takes place within the company L’Excentrale, where he serves as one of the artistic directors.
At ARFI, he currently plays with La Marmite Infernale, Indolphylités, La Bête à sept têtes, and Canto General. He was previously a member of Kif-Kif, Babel Orkestra, Arfolia Libra, Chant bien fatal, Au-dessus du monde, Les Raisins de la Déraison, and Avril l’Enchanteur.
