To mark its centenary in 2022, ARFI presents a new live cinema concert around Murnau’s Nosferatu, the first cinematic adaptation of the Dracula myth. For this creation, Guillaume Grenard composed a score for a string trio featuring Clémence Cognet on violin, Colin Delzant on cello, and Christophe Gauvert on double bass.
The music recorded for the Nosferatu album is a condensed version of the score performed live during the cine-concert. Since some passages were too closely tied to the visuals, the score was reworked and adapted so the music could stand on its own, becoming an autonomous piece while preserving the chronological coherence of the narrative. Evolving from film music to a symphonic poem for a pocket orchestra, the piece bridges contrasting 20th-century musical aesthetics: tonal music, the Second Viennese School, contemporary music, and repetitive music.
